Our Commission

The Odisha State Commission for Women came into existence in the year 1993 by virtue of Panchayati Raj Department Resolution No. 11399 dated 30.11.1992. The Odisha State Commission for Women Rules 2006 which came into force w.e.f. 26th December, 2006 aims at protecting, preserving and safeguarding the rights and interest of women and dealing with atrocities on and offences against women in the State of Odisha.

The State Government nominates the Chairperson and the Members by subsequent resolutions from time to time. The Commission was first constituted on 14.01.1993 and Dr. Ranu Mishra, a veteran social worker, was nominated by the State Government as the first Chairperson. There after Prof. Lopamudra Mohanty, Smt. Namita Panda, Smt. Usha Padhee, IAS, Dr. Jyoti Panigrahi, and Smt. Arti Ahuja, IAS, Commissioner-cum-Secretary to Govt., W&CD Department, have subsequently taken charge. At present Dr. Lopamudra Baxipatra is the Chairperson of the Commission; she assumed responsibility on 03.12.2012.
